We never much cared for the “the common folk are so dumb” type humor. Blanketing all students as dumb was not only too easy of a joke, but it also never rang true to us personally. On the contrary, most college classes were basically giant Bell Curves with a few kids who were too smart, and a few who were not quite smart enough. In this strip, Amanda plays the part of one not quite smart enough.
Despite the assertion that most students are fairly intelligent, the truth is that most would not be able to pick out and name a reference to a Romantic poet. In this case, the poem in question is William Blake’s The Tyger from his book Songs of Experience. Blake happens to be Justin’s favorite poet.
